Welcome to Michael's Diner and here is my recipe for Patty Melts. Do you like Diner Food?
Ingredients:
1 egg
1 teaspoon coarse grind salt or 1/2 teaspoon table salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
1 Tablespoon yellow mustard
1 pound ground beef
Mix this and form into 3 patties into the shape of the bread.
You will need:
Cheese.... provolone/american/swiss whatever you prefer
Bread...... Rye Bread or any bread that you prefer
ONIONS.... 2 medium to large onions sliced and cooked until very soft and starting to brown, cook them low and slow with some salt and butter
Sauce Ingredients:
1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 Tablespoons bacon bits
2 Tablespoons ketchup
1 Tablespoon relish
This will fill you up since there is so much cheese with the third pound patty.
It's great with rye bread. It has taken me years to like rye bread but it goes so well with this and is the perfect strong note of flavor in my opinion. Use the bread of your choice for you.
Laying a loose piece of aluminum foil over the pan helps the cheese to melt a bit faster.
