In 2024, Te Matua a Māui and the CCHV districts of TWO-HNZ collaborated on a regional intra-district initiative to improve access to stroke rehabilitation in the Wairoa area. This was achieved through Telehealth and Virtual Clinical Mentoring to support a newly established Community Physiotherapy role. The initiative was driven by the dedication and innovation of health and research leaders passionate about advancing equity in care, particularly stroke care, in Aotearoa New Zealand. Kit and Nichola, the clinicians on the ground—and over bandwidth—feel privileged to have been part of this project.
In this Rehab Conversation, Nic reflects on their experiences working within a Telehealth/Tele-support model designed to build capability and deliver sustainable stroke rehabilitation closer to home for a rural community.
