We recently asked Luc Jurien, the CEO at Alubat, to walk us through what is involved in the painting process, and there's no question about it, building an aluminum sailboat is more challenging than building a fiberglass one. Unlike fiberglass boats that are primarily built around molds, it requires a highly skilled workforce to build an aluminum hull. In fact, an aluminum hull at Alubat spends nearly four weeks in the paint shop alone, that's typically the same amount of time it takes to build and commission a fiberglass boat of the same size.
