Here's presenting a journey undertaken in the north eastern frontier of Assam across River Brahmaputra over the majestic Bogibeel Bridge. Sanctioned in the early 2000s and inaugurated in December 2018, the Bogibeel bridge is the longest rail-cum-road bridge in India. Spanning over 4.98 kms, it connects the northern bank of River Brahmputra to the southern bank.

Till its inauguration, Assam, cut into two by the wide Brahmaputra, had extreme connectivity issues between its north and south banks. The bridges at Tezpur, Kamakhya & Jogighopa (near Bongaigaon) were the only options to cross the humongous river. However, all of these were on the western part of Assam with the east highly deprived of a proper connectivity.

The Bogibeel bridge "bridges" that gap aptly. Journeys that would take a day earlier are now covered in less than 2-3 hours, a huge boost to transport in not only Assam but also Arunachal Pradesh, which still lacks proper rail connectivity.

This video is an attempt to portray the Bogibeel bridge and parts of north eastern Assam. We start off from Murkongselek, which is a fairly unknown and quite place. The hills of Arunachal Pradesh are almost at a stone's throw distance, no wonder because the border is quite within reach. What follows is a serene journey past some villages and towns; Simen Chapori & Silapathar being the prominent ones.

At Sripani, another of those quite locations, we undergo a reversal in direction. Our locomotive is detached and attached back at our rear while we prepare to undertake the Bogibeel voyage.

The Bogibeel bridge arrives soon. The NH-5 aligns itself with us again as we prepare to approach Brahmaputra together. There is a speed restriction leading up to the bridge but soon our locomotive lets loose and we pick up the permissible 75 kmph speed in a minute or so. Such is the width, there are times when the ends are not properly visible. It takes us around 4 minutes to cover the entire 5 km long bridge and end up on the other side.

This effectively concludes the video as well as the journey. A brief passage through the tea gardens on the approach to Dibrugarh is a mere formality.
