I recreated the mouthwatering Hong Kong Lemon Chicken from the manga 九龍ジェネリックロマンス (Kowloon Generic Romance).
In this vlog, I also make Fan Tuan rice balls and Mapo Tofu, while sharing a calm and cozy week back home 🍚

Since I really love anime-inspired food, I’ll be posting more of these dishes from time to time.

🍋 Hong Kong-style Lemon Chicken
📝 Ingredients (Serves 4–5)

Chicken
• Boneless chicken thighs … 4 pieces (approx. 1200g)
• Potato starch … 6 tbsp (for batter)
• Water … a little
• Soy sauce … 3 tbsp
• Salt … 5 pinches
• Sake … 2 tbsp
• Sesame oil … 1 tbsp
• Kombu dashi … a small amount (optional)
• Potato starch … 100g (approx. 10 tbsp, for massaging into the meat)
• Oil … about 2 cm deep in the pot (for shallow frying)

Lemon Sauce
• Lemons … 2
• Water … 140 ml
• Honey … 6 tbsp
• Chicken stock powder … 1.5 tsp
• Potato starch … 1 tbsp

💡 Tip:
When I boiled 2 whole lemons, the sauce turned bitter.
I recommend squeezing the juice for the sauce and lightly boiling a few slices just for garnish.
All measurements are approximate, so feel free to adjust to your taste 😋

🔥 Mapo Tofu
📝 Ingredients (Serves: 3–4)

Main ingredients
• Ground pork … 100g
• Garlic … 3 cloves
• Silken tofu … 2 blocks (600g total)
• Japanese long green onion (negi) … 2/3 stalk

Seasonings
• Doubanjiang (chili bean paste) … just under 1 tsp
• Tianmianjiang (sweet bean paste) … 2 tbsp
• Douchi paste (fermented black beans) … 2 tsp
• Chili oil … 1 tbsp
• Chicken stock powder … just under 1 tsp
• Shaoxing wine (or regular sake) … 1 tbsp
• Soy sauce … 1 tsp
• Honey … a small amount
• Water … 400 ml
• Salt … a pinch
• Pepper … to taste
• Salad oil … as needed
• Sichuan pepper (Huajiao) … to taste

Thickener
• Potato starch … 2 tbsp
• Water … 4 tbsp (for slurry)
