New Orleans, 1815 is solo for marching tenor drums and optional kick drum heavily influenced by both the French and American rudimental styles, specifically Joseph Tompkins’ Nine French-American Rudimental Solos. The specific aim of this duet is to bridge the gap between concert and marching percussion, and fill the void that has been left of the marching tenor drums in the concert style. The work was first composed on one drum all the way through in the French-American style, and then the “arounds” were arranged for the tenor drums, making sure the integrity of the style, rhythms, and feel remained intact.
