Flying with BLADE from Manhattan to JFK Airport

Was the first helicopter ride of this trip an unplanned thing, the second one surely wasn’t! Me and my brother Lars continued our trip in the USA by catching a train to New York and spend a small week there. Exploring the huge city is already incredible. But the city is from a planespotters perspective very interesting too! The skies above Manhattan are very crowded with flights to or from the airports of JFK, La Guardia, Newark, and Teteboro. We spotted a Grumman C-2A Greyhound which was very cool! There are also a lot of helicopters flying around which ate using three heliports around the city. You can do sightseeing flights offcourse but there is also the very special experience you get from Blade. This is basically an Uber service by helicopter. We did a flight with them from Manhattan West 30th street to JFK Airport. I surprised my brother with this, he did not know I booked this. Booking was easy on the Blade website and it costed us almost 200 euro’s per person. We made our way to the Blade lounge at the heliport, which from the outside looks a bit like a shed if I’m honest. Inside though it is a nice and cozy place. You get free drinks from the bar and we spotted some helicopters coming and going. We got a safety briefing and our luggage was taken care of. We didn’t have to carry it ourselves for a second! Soon our helicopter arrived: a 13 year old Bell 206L Long Ranger N227MH, painted in a black livery. Very nice and super comfy interior inside! The flight to JFK was astonishing! It was a beautiful sunny day so incredible views out of the windows of Manhattan, the statue of freedom and JFK Airport. The arrival there was very special aswell as we flew over the active runway in a straight line to the jetcenter. It’s not on video but there was a very big Cadillac waiting for us and we where driven to our hotel, the TWA hotel, in lovely comfort. Brilliant service from Blade and an incredible experience to fly an helicopter around New York! If you ever get the chance, give this a try! It’s awesome! I hope you enjoy the video.
