We often hear that “history is written by the winners”, but in today’s contested information age, global powers compete to shape the narratives of international events. How do they do it? And what are the dangers posed by the digitalisation of global politics?
This TEPSA Animated Explainer explores the role of digital diplomacy and takes a closer look at the ways in which Russia, China, and the US have used their online presence on social media platforms, such as X, to respond to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The video is based on the findings of the RECLAIM publication, “Contestation over truth regimes: Russia, China and the US digital diplomacy on the Russian invasion of Ukraine”, authored by Petr Kratochvíl, Ondřej Ditrych, and Jan Švec.
This Animated Explainer has been created in collaboration of the Horizon-funded "Reclaiming Liberal Democracy in the Post-Factual Age" (RECLAIM) project, which investigates the impact of post-truth politics on liberal democracy and looks for ways to mitigate it.
