A customer of mine recently asked me to service this 1940s era U.S.A. made Singer 175-61 button sewing machine.
Featuring Alice the "supervisor" cat.
The table and motor is lost to time but I have the sewing head here and I'll show you it's inner workings.
I won't be able to sew test it but we can put it through the motions and see exactly how it works.
These type of machines work on a cycle rather than being speed controlled by the operator. When the operator has loaded a button and positioned the work, they engage the machine to sew the button onto the work. This particular machine has a 16 stitch cycle. At the end of the cycle the machine automatically disengages the drive and goes into idle mode.
