Trekking is allowed only on the Saturday's of Purattasi month. There are two ways to reach the top. One via Palamalai road which is longer (around 5 km) but less steeper and less steps. The other from Chinna Thadagam which is shorter but steeper with lot of stone steps. It needs around 4-5 hours up and down if you are visiting only Ranganathar temple. If you want to cover the Shiva temple which is in the peak then you have considered 7-8 hours. So suggest to start the trek before 6Am. You have to start descending around 3pm to reach the parking before 6pm as it is not safe after that.

Throughout the trek it was thru trees and shrubs and so not much heat. Though it is a tough trek there were lot of women's and children's trekking. When you cover 3/4 the hills there is a water stream where you can freshen and fillup your bottle. Water is so tasty revitalizing your energy. It took 4 hours to reach the Ranganathar temple. There are sheds were you can rest for a while. Annadanam was good with rice, sambar, rasam and poriyal. It was so divine to have this annadanam after a tiring trek. There is a very good view point called bangala medu around 5 mins from the temple. You could see the parking place from here. If you wish to go to Siva temple you have to climb another 1 hours and it's very steep but has the best mesmerising 360 degree and to get the blessings from Siva...
