First descent of the rio Sucio - Expedition Kayaking - COLOMBIA

Quick recap of our first descent of the rio sucio in south colombia , story below :


More than a year after seeing it for the first time on the map , i was thinking about it again.
The rio sucio is a deep 60 kilometers boxed canyon , only a few entry/exit and a really constent gradient. It looked beautiful but pretty challenging.
With some more topographic research and map work , we finally give it a try , but with a lots of unknown.
After more than 20 hours of bus we made it to the put in town , high up the colombian sierra , and we saw the river for the first time.
The river looked like medium , not what we wanted for a first d.
We spent the first day to scout the first gorge , where a 80 meters waterfall was falling down. It rained pretty much all day , the flow went up quickly.
The main river was too high and we had to wait.
The second day we decided to paddle down a tributary called the blanco , a really short but sweet section of 3/4 and finish the food preps for the main trip.
As the flow was still too high on day 3, we decided to skip the first gorge , and put in below. We then hiked up and down , around the first gorge , around 14 kilometers , with the helps of mules.
When we arrived below the first gorge , the flow was still pretty high , and it was still raining... We slept not far from the river waiting for it to drop more.
It rained all night , the river was still too high.
On day 4 , 2 members of the team decided to hike back to the first town and get back home. The rest of the team decided to hike down more , to get below the main gradient and finish the middle and lower part of the river.
Not knowing if there was a trail , or knowing if there was any others access to the canyon.
It took us 3 more days ,of walking and bushwaking with heavy rain , with help of mules or not to made it to the river.
the canyon was so deep we had to walk more than 40 kilometers to finally find an entry.
Pretty tired and left with no food , we finally paddle down the lower section ( around 10 k ) until the take out.

But we found gold , this river is beyond every expectation we had , the whitewater down here is amazing
Lets hope we can finish this one next time.
