This shows the peak of the annular eclipse ** in real time ** as seen through a hydrogen-alpha telescope. So, I hope you can watch till the end for the full effect, as well as some great music!
This will be part 1 of a longer documentary I'm making on solar and lunar eclipses. I hope you find this short film inspiring and that it gives you warm vibes :-)
A solar eclipse is often a once-in-a-lifetime event that can change your perspective on the natural world, inspire a deep, resounding, emotional connection to the universe, and create memories that last a lifetime. Many people describe seeing an eclipse in person as great sense of awe, 'oneness', and balance. I've filmed several eclipses and, for me, it always inspires a deep feeling of connectedness to the bigger picture, of nature, and especially our place on Earth. It's no wonder eclipses have played such a profound role in all cultures, religions, symbolism, and philosophies around the world
I filmed the 'Ring of Fire' in Albuquerque, NM using a solar telescope (hydrogen-alpha wavelengths), and in natural white light using a solar filter. In real time, this video shows the peak of annularity (phases C2-C3), during the 2023 annular eclipse in the Western half of The United States. I wanted to show, in real time, what an eclipse 'feels like' as well as how it looks. They are truly incredible markers of the passage of time, the changing of views, our relationships, and life events.
You'll see the shimmering 'Baily's Beads' and 'diamond ring' appear through the mountains of the Moon, and the solar flares (prominences) on the edge of the Sun at the same time. You can clearly see several large prominences on the Sun's limb, lower left and smaller proms all around the Sun's edge.
I hope you find this video inspiring and that it leaves you with a sense of awe, and natural connectedness. I hope it can serve as a reminder in how we all share our similar place under the Sun.
*Warning* - Never point a telescope at the Sun without proper training and safety filters. Permanent eye damage, blindness, and camera damage WILL occur!

It tells a story of a swallow flying into a household to proclaim the plentiful and bountiful year that the family will have. The title is derived from the Ukrainian word for "bountiful". The song is based on a traditional folk chant whose language was thought to have magical properties." per Wiki)
