On Thursday during question period in the House of Commons, Conservatives slammed Liberals for grocery prices "climbing and getting worse." This comes after Canada’s Food Price Report warns Canadians to brace for even higher food costs next year, with rising prices in multiple sectors set to continue putting pressure on household grocery budgets.
"After 10 years of this Liberal government, Canadians' grocery bills look less like a Christmas list and more like Clark Griswold's electricity bill," said Conservative Member of Oshawa, Rhonda Kirkland.
Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre said that Liberals "go from making promises to making excuses," and questioned whether they will finally reverse the Liberal taxes that are, in his view, driving up food.
Jobs and Families Minister Patty Hajdu responded, saying that "We're working to control the things we can," and mentioned an extension of the Early Learning and Child Care Program - to which Poilievre replied that "Children cannot eat agreements or photo ops or promises."
