How judges score a UFC fight.
The UFC adopts the 10 point must system from boxing, where the winner of a round gets 10 points, and the loser gets 9 or fewer.
The fighter with the most tallied points wins, but what matters most to the judges?
The most important factors are effective striking and grappling, effective ggression, and Octagon Control.
When it comes to effective striking and grappling, the impact is what matters most, so you can land a jab or get a takedown, but it may not be considered impactful.
But if you stagger your opponent with a strike or land a takedown that leads to effective attacks, then that would be considered effective and impactful.
Aggression only matters if the effective striking and grappling is equal. And the aggression must also be effective and with the intent to finish the fight.
And if that’s eqaul too, then then we go to Octagon control, where the judges will grant points to the fighter who is able to control the tempo of the fight and push their opponent to the perimeter of the cage.
Whether you want to casually watch a good fight, or understand a controversial score, you need to know
