I add DMX control capability to a cheap fog machine using only items I found in my home.
⚠️ This project comes dangerously close to high voltage. Don't do anything you see unless you are comfortable and qualified! ⚠️
This Chauvet Hurricane 700 – circa 2010 – uses an IEC C13 inlet on its chassis to connect its included "FC-M" model wired remote control. I create a "replacement" remote control interface that features DMX control of the unit using an Arduino-based microcontroller to speak DMX and control a relay. This replacement "remote" gets its power from the fog machine's remote control port, which supplies 120 volt mains power to the remote! I investigate the supplied remote control, prototype a circuit to control it, and create a printed circuit board (PCB) to house the final version.
This is meant to be a silly/fun project, please don't take it too seriously. Would I use this on a professional job or connect it to my expensive lighting console directly? Nope.
