Red Pine Gondola first bore itself as Flight Of The Canyons from 1997-2010 and started in a different location close to where the Orange Bubble is today, formally the Golden Eagle double. When the surrounding Canyons Village was in development, the Golden Eagle was replaced and the Red Pine Gondola was realigned to be more at the center of the village and especially more convenient to reach from the Cabriolet in 2010. A new Angle-Station was built the first 4 towers above the village close to the lower part of the Lower Sunrise trail to most of the existing gondola path. Red Pine Gondola also allows for downloading especially because there are no beginner trails down to the base and intermediates would have to ride Saddleback, Short Cut or Over & Out to get to the base. Between Towers 14-15 the gondola goes over the massive namesake canyon while on its final leg to Red Pine Lodge.
In 2023, the old Poma cabins were replaced with brand new Sigma Diamond cabins whilst still maintaining the Double TB-41 grips. Prior to that, over 30% of the old cabins were out-of-service, causing a lot of headaches when there is only the gondola and the bubble to access and when you throw wind-exposure in the mix: a bigger problem. This is a good step to addressing the problem especially when the new Sunrise Gondola gets installed next year in summer 2025. Red Pine most of the time runs close to full speed but today it ran under 850 fpm which is a bit slower. I know Red Pine will get maintained over the next years and will be around for a while.
