Sarabanda e Toccata was written by Nino Rota (1911 - 1979), an Italian composer known for writing many film scores. This set of two pieces begins with slow and stately Sarabanda that ebbs and flows and uses the full range of the harp quite beautifully. The lively and cheerful Toccata alternates between bubbling sections filled with sixteenth notes and sparser sections with scaler passages. Rota dedicated the piece to harpist Clelia Gatti Aldrovandi.
