Peavey Classic 50 Tube Comparison

**UPDATE 7/9/2022 (evening news theme plays)!***
The amp has moved on to a rock band upstate where it will be able to be as loud and as awesome as it wants to be! In other words, I’m retired from gigging and no longer need a loud gigging amp, so it was traded for a drum kit so my 5yo can start learning to play the drums. It will be missed but we can sleep soundly knowing it will continue melting faces on a new rock and roll jounney 🤘🏻

Tired of the same ol’ sounds from your trusty but aurally unexciting Peavey Classic 50? Maybe this video is for you! After years of playing Peavey Classic amps (I’ve had 1 Classic 30, 2 Classic 410s, and 3 Classic 212s which I do believe is a budget guitarist’s bingo), I decided I wanted a different sound. I’ve used JJ’s tubes exclusively with these amps and for good reason- they’re chimey without being ice pick-y, they have lots of gain, and they’re reliable. You’re never gonna get a Fender clean sound from this amp, but JJ’s will get you as close as the amp will get. I got this amp used and it just so happened to have JJ’s in the power section already. In the quest for something new, I decided to go with ‘premium’ tubes to see if they actually make a difference. Whelp, they did. I’ll let you decide how much and which is better.

Here’s a list of the replacement tubes, all reissues:
-Genalex Gold Lion EL34s, matched quad
-Mullard 12AX7 ECC83 in position v1
-Mullard 12AX7 CV4004 in position v2
-Tung-Sol 12AX7 in position v3

The replacement speakers:
-WGS Veteran 30 (Celestion Vintage 30 clone), left side audio
-WGS ET65 (Celestion G12-65 clone), right side audio

I used the same equipment for all the audio:
-a 2006 Custom Shop Stratocaster with a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge
-Scarlett 2i2 interface
-2 SM57s
-Cubasis 3
