Johnny Allen, familiarly known as 'The Duke' of radio sadly passed away on Wednesday December 6, 2023.
Johnny was more than just a person in everybody's life who knew him. He was a voice that comforted, a sound that brought joy, and a personality that left an indelible mark on New York City's radio scene. Each word he spoke to the microphone wasn't just sound waves; instead, they were emotional waves that resonated with people from all walks of life.
Johnny, 'The Duke' of radio. A name and title that not only filled the airwaves but also the hearts of many. A +40-year career in radio, Johnny worked across the New York FM dial at all the top 50K watt stations. Johnny, a former Air personality at, 92 WKTU, WBLS, KISS FM, Jammin' 105, iHeartMedia Inc. Since 2017, Johnny held the 10p-12a timeslot on iSoulRadio.com Friday & Saturday nights.
Nobody is merely their job title, right? And Johnny was no exception. He was a friend to many, a confidante to some, and a legend to all. Beyond his work, he was an illustrious alumnus of Queensborough and completed his education at Andrew Jackson High School. Besides his own career, Johnny opened doors for many other inspiring radio jocks via his Broadcast School in NYC.
There's a certain kind of magic about radio personalities, isn't there? And Johnny Allen was no exception who left behind a big mark.
