What Is Slump Glass?

Slumped glass utilizes a mold to form sheet glass using gravity and heat from a kiln. With so many mold shapes and textures to select from, the possibilities are almost limitless. It's standard practice to utilize the slumping technique for making dishes like bowls and trays, as well as art glass.

Sheet glass is slumped over a mold and heated to 1300 degrees Fahrenheit in a kiln. Gravity pushes the glass into the mold while it's heated. annealing is the process of gently returning molten glass to room temperature once it has taken on the appropriate form in the kiln. The temperature range for annealing is 700°F to 1000°F. The exact annealing temperature is determined on the kind of glass being used.
