Danny O'Connor hit an extra-time winner as Drogheda overturned a 2-0 first leg deficit to keep their place in the Premier Division in a thrilling game at O2 Park.

O'Connor headed home after Declan O'Brien got a touch to a Mark Dempsey free kick to put Drogheda in front in the tie for the first time after 105 minutes.

It was a timely goal as two minutes earlier Drogheda had been reduced to ten men when Mark Quinless was sent off for a tackle from behind on Derek O' Brien.

Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, substitute Andy Myler, on the pitch just two minutes, gave Drogheda hope on the night when scoring from a penalty on the hour mark after Michael Harty had tripped O'Brien.

O'Brien then headed home a superb cross from O'Connor to equalise eight minutes later and force extra-time.

Galway thought they had won it on 88 minutes but David Goldby's goal was disallowed for offside. Captain Mark Herrick then also had a goal ruled out for offside a minute before Drogheda scored their winner.
