Shin Fujiyama gives you a tour of SHH’s 56th school build in Honduras. The school is located in Cruz de Valencia, a community near the banana fields of La Lima. Parents in each of our partner communities are required to chip in to the project through sweat equity, or manual labor.
At first, Shin wasn’t sure how many parents would be out volunteering their time, given all of the hurricane cleanup work people have to do back at home. He was surprised. Despite everything going on back at their homes, more than 100 parents and students were mixing concrete at the school build and cleaning the older classrooms.
The middle school building was funded by One Thousand Schools (onethousandschools.com), our young professionals branch, and built by our Honduran staff members and parents from the community.
