Back in Rivas after 24 hours on Ometepe, I kicked off a Nicaraguan breakfast street food tour with Carlos, starting at a Levanta Muerto soup stand, a rich seafood broth packed with meat, cabbage, and a lobster tail, perfect with fresh tortillas. I followed it with pure, pulpy orange juice and black coffee before diving into nacatamales, stuffed with pork and served with bread and tortillas, plus fiery chilies on the side. We ended at a rosquilla factory, tasting buttery corn-and-cheese cookies, sweet torta de maiz, and spicy chili rosquillas, an incredible morning of local flavors.
