The Supreme God of Ancient Egypt (the Pyramid Age) ATUM | History Podcast

Atum means "everything" and "nothing". He was the great demiurge of the Ancient Egyptian solar cult, born of himself in the darkness of the cosmic primeval ocean, from chaos, from nothing… to create everything.
He was the spark that started ZepTepi, the explosion of creation. Everything began with him and everything will end with Atum, the Great God, the Sovereign of the Great Ennead, the Lord of All. Atum was the "One" who gave birth to millions from himself. All creation, all reality was, according to the Egyptians, part of his cosmic body, and it seems that other deities as well as the forces shaping the universe - Heka and Maat only represented his multiple aspects.

Atum is therefore one of the most important, if not the most important deity of pharaonic Egypt. All later cosmogonic concepts were based on the Heliopolitan creation myth. He was the supreme deity of the pyramid age, with whom Djoser, Snefru and Khufu identified themselves.
