We have visited an Elephant Sanctuary in Thailand. There was no riding allowed, only feeding and playing.
Make sure to always do your research before going to a sanctuary in Thailand. Avoid any riding, or attending any circuses where elephants are made to do tricks.
Wild elephants generally will not allow a human to ride them.
In Thailand there is a process called “Phajaan” (elephant crushing), where young elephants are taken, and put into a confined space where then they get beaten, starved and deprived of sleep.
