Every year on the weekend closest to the anniversary, the Real Bird family hosts a reenactment of the Battle of the Little Big Horn on the site of the actual battle. It's attended by hundreds of reenactors on both sides, with the present-day Crow horsemen portraying the heroes on the native side of the historic engagement. Men like Crazy Horse, Bloody Knife, and Gall.
Along with the actual telling of the story of the battle, there's an exhibition by all the participants of their horsemanship and weapons skills. It's always a favorite moment of mine when the Crow men lead a large herd of horses into the parade area and show off their wrangling skills. This video is primarily about the Crow participants in the reenactment, but I will be following it up with one taking a look at the Custer side of things, as that is a unique and very interesting story unto its self - enjoy!
