"शमशेर सिंह (Dilip Kumar) अपने बेटे और परिवार के साथ शांत जीवन जी रहा होता है, जब उसके बेटे प्रताप की हत्या कर दी जाती है। गुस्से से लाल शमशेर कुछ गुंडों को मारकर बदला लेने निकल पड़ता है, लेकिन पुलिस से बचकर वह अपने पोते कुणाल के साथ शहर छोड़ देता है और खतरनाक अंडरवर्ल्ड डॉन सिर मिज्या के साथ जुड़कर बन जाता है धनी और शक्तिशाली शोभराज।

कुणाल (Sanjay Dutt) जब बड़ा होता है, उसकी मोहब्बत दुर्गा (Padmini Kolhapure) के लिए परिवार की दीवारें और अतीत के राज़ दोनों ही बाधा बनते हैं। दुर्गा और कुणाल को बंदी बना लिया जाता है, और शमशेर के खिलाफ़ पुराना दुश्मन जगावर (Amrish Puri) हावी हो जाता है। अब सवाल ये है:
