ITRI hosts world-class 2024 HLF Summit｜Taiwan News

Hsinchu is the host city for the 2024 HLF Summit. This year, the world-class summit for innovation, debuted in France, is co-hosted by the Industrial Technology Research Institute, or ITRI. Experts and business leaders from more than 20 countries witnessed firsthand Taiwan’s vibrant industrial ecosystems. On the sidelines of the event, the director of French Office Taipei said he sees promising opportunities for Taiwan-France collaborations.

Leading researchers, industrialists and academics from around the world gather in Hsinchu. They’re all here to participate in the 2024 HLF Summit. The HLF, which stands for High Level Forum, is an international network for innovation established in Grenoble, France. This is the first time they’re hosting the summit in Taiwan, together with the Industrial Technology Research Institute. With a panel of experts from more than 20 countries, including the US, Canada, Japan, Thailand and Sweden, lively discussions on innovative ecosystems ensued.

To connect and even collaborate with these important partners across countries is significant, because the world’s future is not for the lone wolf, and one should look beyond short-term economic issues. We hope to make long-term contributions to society.

Despite global challenges such as supply chain fragmentation and aging populations, Taiwan continues to play a pivotal role in the world’s economy. With innovative businesses and cutting-edge technologies, resilience is now the middle name of Taiwanese industry.

Having the HLF in Taiwan this year is a major achievement, because Taiwan is one of the most vibrant ecosystems in terms of innovation in the world.

With a global market share of some 60% in semiconductors and some 90% in AI servers, Taiwan’s industries have taken the spotlight in the world’s R&D sector.

We look at the two situations, both in Taiwan and in France, there is a lot of potential for complementarity. We think that the matching between French innovation and Taiwan’s unique capability for industry can produce new champions.

The HLF Summit placed Taiwan squarely on the global map and opened up new avenues for innovation.
