In this tutorial, I take a look at the core structure of using an LFO to control the tempo of hardware within Max/MSP. I begin with the core midi messages, driving the tempo via the metro object, converting our BPM to millisecond values, and modulating those millisecond values with an LFO. I am controlling patterns within an Elektron Octatrack and an Elektron Machinedrum with the modulated tempo. There are many more directions to go in from this basic beginning, but hopefully it will get people's feet wet with some of the programming ideas and prepare us to explore expanding on this for future tutorials.
