A satisfying performance of Shostakovich 10 with Maazel/Pittsburgh. Mark Nuccio on 2nd and I have to say that it was a privilege being able to work with Mark for the years we had together both in Denver and Pittsburgh. As difficult as the 1st part is, the 2nd part is also demanding and Mark made my job much easier--and easy to hear why his career has been so successful. Robert Langevin was playing 1st flute at this time in Pittsburgh and the horn section led by Bill Cabellero was awesome. Certainly some spirited tempi as well. I forgot to mention that the cassette tape is 30 years old and evidently had some damage to the end of the tape run...of course, it happens right in the middle of the short difficult solo in the 4th mvt! I was fortunate enough to hit all the notes!
