Leopold Stokowski conducts the NY Philharmonic Orchestra in performance of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 35 in D major, K. 385, aka the Haffner Symphony on November 20th, 1949.
The performance was broadcast by CBS, and recorded locally in Minnesota off of WCCO by Reynolds Marchant. Unfortunately the recording was done a little too hot so the loudest parts are a bit distorted. Otherwise the sound is quite good.
There is a bit of tape warble and warping at the start so Jim Fassett’s voice goes through some pitch changes. I did some pitch correction (it was much worse) but you can still tell something odd is going on. Strange to your ears indeed :)
