During the Falklands War in 1982, the Royal Air Force (RAF) conducted a series of long-range bombing raids known as Operation Black Buck. One of these missions, Black Buck 6, involved a Vulcan bomber (XM597) attacking Argentine radar installations on the Falkland Islands. After completing the mission, the aircraft encountered a technical issue with its refueling probe during the return flight. Unable to refuel, the crew diverted to Brazil for an emergency landing.
