We lived near Antigua, Guatemala for three months and tracked every dollar we spent so we could share how much it costs to live in Guatemala! Guatemala is an incredible travel destination, and we got to do a lot of awesome tourist activities during our time living in Guatemala. However, we also did a lot of regular, digital-nomad things like work, buy groceries, cook, seek medical care, and bring our dog to the vet and groomer. Whether you are wanting to know what it costs to travel in Guatemala, or what it costs to live in Guatemala, this video will have some great information for you.

We've got a lot of information to share with you in this video, so to do it in a fun way, we're taking you around Antigua one final time while we tell you about all of our expenses living in Guatemala so far. The city of Antigua is one of our favourite places to visit, and it's known to be one of the more expensive places to live in Guatemala because it is such a huge tourist hub. So, if you're wondering how expensive Antigua is, our day of going around this city will help you understand that.

To share with you what it cost to live in Guatemala, we've organized our expenses into nine categories. We cover the cost of accommodation, activities, transportation, groceries, eating out, shopping, pet care (we are traveling with our dog Evie), medical, and a few general expenses like data and travel insurance. We share the monthly average for each of these categories to really give you a good look at what you can expect to pay to live in Guatemala.

Generally, we live on a fairly tight traveler budget. We are long-term travellers who became digital nomads, and we do our best to live on a budget while still buying things that we love like decent coffee, and healthy food. However, we prefer to save money on material items as much as coffee and instead spend a bit more money to do cool activities like hiking volcanoes and taking Spanish lessons. That's just our general approach to our finances as traveling digital nomads 😁

Our travels are going to take us further south into more of Central America, and we are really curious to see how the cost of living in Guatemala will compare to the cost of living in other Central American countries. We think it might be one of the more expensive ones, but it is still an affordable country to travel to and work online in for travellers like us!
