Orcust Duels + Discussion: Orcust vs Burning Abyss, Gouki, and Danger Dark World FTK!!

Full Matches and Commentary using Orcust against Light of Sekka BA, Dark Gouki, and the new Danger Dark World FTK!

Keys to the matchups:

Against BA, a big key to victory is that we can summon multiple monsters with at least 2500 atk, which really restrict how the opponent plays. Next, Longirsu outing Beatrice is also huge. However, because the opponent is playing a lot of kaijus, it really kind of negates the topologic bomber dragon play. In retrospect, the ideal way to play around potential kaijus is to end with Longirsu in GY with Cymbals rather than with it on the field because what happened a lot was for Longirsu to get stuck in an unfavorable position due to the kaijus. With Long + Cymbals in GY, I can just revive it to whatever link point allows him to send something to the GY. Overall though, we can play far more efficiently, so being the control is advantageous. If we need to play the beatdown, we can do that as well though. The BA opponent doesn't have the ability to play the control, and can only play the beatdown if they have a kaiju to out the Topologic Bomber Dragon, and even then, we can still produce a ton of defense with the Orcust monsters. Due to this, we should be able to win the majority of games we open playable or at least on par with our opponents due to them only being able to control their role some of the time if they open very well.

Against Gouki, the biggest key to victory is to go first and set up enough disruption. Going 2nd, we don't play enough hand traps to reliably have a chance to win. When setting up defense going first, the engine can produce Longirsu, Orcustration, and Topologic Bomber Dragon. TBD is stopped by Mid-Field Breaker, so we have to prioritize going into Orcustration instead. With that, we also need to optimize for getting our Machines banished, which means sometimes not using Galatea and using Allure if we have it. It can also mean emphasizing Orcustrated Core, which can also banish cards from the GY while also protecting monsters from Unicorn and Babel from Phoenix. Both of which are also significant interactions. Another thing to keep in mind is Firewall's effect stopping Cymbals. Ultimately, this matchup comes down to who is able to play the beatdown first. Both decks are able to play either role, and both have counters to each other's plays, and so there can be a real ebb and flow within this matchup.

Against Danger Dark World FTK, it's very similar to the Gouki matchup, expect they don't have Magical Mid-Breaker Field, so they're far more vulnerable to Topologic Bomber Dragon. This also makes it easier to resolve Longirsu since it isn't competing with Orcustration. However, even though your defense is more effective in this matchup, you really need it because the deck's ceiling is so much higher than Gouki's. Gouki's plays are relatively linear, but the Dangers constantly summoning themselves and replacing themselves in the hand is very spooky. I wish I could have gotten more games against this deck though because I think it would have been more even if we played more games. I went second in half of those games, which is pretty much an auto-loss with only 4 hand traps. Then during the games we went first, we bricked in one and conveniently hit the Big Foot in the other. We could've played them better possibly, but we were a little unlucky in those games too.

Matchups not shown:
Against Thunder Dragons, Orcust have a pretty solid matchup since we don't really add cards from deck to hand outside of World Legacy Survivor, which we can easily side out. This means that we can answer boards with multiple Colossus pretty easily bewteen Longirsu, Unicorn, and Orcustration. Titan can be problematic though, but if we're going second, we can sometimes be able to play through it if we draw an extender. When going first, TBD triggers all their effects, so we usually would prefer to end with Orcustration + Long or even Long + Galatea to optimize for next turn. If we do have TBD, we have to use it before they establish their fusions. T-Dragons are pretty efficient too, so we have to be careful with how we decide our role. Both decks can play either, so again, it will depend on the timing and the strength of your hands.

Against Strikers, TBD is actually useless lol. However, Trisbaena can be pretty good, but this also banishes out own S/T, so we have to be very careful with it. Not having an efficient way to deal with links is problematic, but we can negate them. Easily the hardest matchup if the opponent is good.
