I am now pretty far down a path to being a neurosurgeon and physician scientist studying how to better understand and find new treatments for neurologic disease. While one might assume that I had always been into science, that's actually not the case. In this Part 1 video, I try to provide some context about how getting into science and research started out as a way to improve my resume just to get into medical school. However, since I had some great mentors who were very encouraging, I started to really enjoy the science more and more. It led me to discover the joy and power of basic science, and has opened up a whole new world to me that I plan on continuing as a part of my neurosurgical physician-scientist career.
