2nd part of the T190 Bobcat repair. The entire process was to remove the engine so that we can install a new fuel tank to replace the leaky one.
While in there we take care of a few spool seals, for tilt and lift controls, as well as replacing the drive control seals. I saw a tiny leak on one of the drive seals so replaced both. These seals were around $90 (4 of them, 2 oring versions and 2 seals). The spool seals and new boots were replaced to cure a slight lift drift.
The entire process was a major effort. I literally disassembled the entire bobcat to get the parts I needed to open up. The engine and bobcat were cleaned, pressure washed and some rust resolver spared all over the inside. I also painted a few items just cuz I can.
Most of the work to remove the engine was pretty unchallening although access to stuff is very limited and very frustrating. The thing that threw me a curve ball was the left front engine mount. I could not for the life of me remove it. The service manual states 70ftlbs but 13 years and some rust later, it was more like 150. Plus access to that bolt is simply ridiculous. Never the less, 1 gear wrench later (18" long) I got it broken lose and out.
I pressure washed the bobcat and engine and painted the engine a medium blue. I think leaks and stuff are easier to see in a light color, instead of the Kubota grey. I also found a tiny pin hole oil leak (due to a tiny rust hole??) and welded it up. This required removing the pan and welding it up, and testing it to make certain I got it done. The engine sat in the shop while I waited on the new tank and it made a mess as a result of that oil leak. Glad I found it in any case.
The spools were fixed in the bobcat which was much easier than expected and rather simple.
The video will show the seal fixes and removing and re-installing the engine.
Once everything was installed, fluids filled etc, the bobcat fired right up. No hesitation, super nice and purring like a kitty.
I did however finally find that hydraulic leak I was unable to find earlier (everything was so dirty). Turns out the throttle rod finally rubbed through a return outlet how on the pump. It was a very good leak under load with a constant stream. New how will be switched out in a few days.
The other item that caught me off guard was a oil leak due to the turbo oil line. It was literally finger tight and something I didn't touch. Things happen I guess and once tightened it was fine.
The tilt and lift arms worked nicely and it drove great...but just couldn't continue due to the leaky hose.
Overall, I saved a ton of money and after these repairs I believe this thing will be good to go for sometime.
