The investigation underscores the necessity for a complete overhaul to avert similar occurrences. Wayne Couzens, a former police officer, committed the heinous acts of abducting, raping, and murdering Ms. Everard while off duty in March 2021.
The inquiry exposed a pattern of neglect in recognising signs of Couzens' unsuitability for the role throughout his nearly two-decade-long policing career. Disturbingly, at least five incidents, including a serious sexual assault on a child before joining the police force, went unreported.
