Taiyari Times presents one of the biggest updates in India’s employment landscape — the New Labour Code 2025, officially implemented from 21 November 2025.
This reform marks a historic moment, as the Government of India has merged 29 existing labour laws into 4 simplified, modern labour codes to create a cleaner, transparent, and worker-centric system.
Today, India steps into a completely new era of workplace governance.
The four labour codes include:
Code on Wages
Industrial Relations Code
Occupational Safety, Health & Working Conditions Code
Social Security Code
Together, these codes touch almost every worker from organized sector employees to gig workers, delivery partners, and women in the workforce.
Under the New Wage Code 2025, your basic salary will form at least 50% of your total CTC. This means changes in take-home salary, PF contribution, gratuity, and taxable income. While in-hand salary may reduce for some, long-term social security benefits increase significantly.
Working hour rules are also changing. The new code allows 48 hours per week, which can be split into 4-day, 5-day, or 6-day working formats
depending on employer and employee agreements. Overtime will now be paid fairly for extra hours, and stronger checks will prevent overwork.
Women employees get a major boost they can now work in any shift, including night shifts, with mandatory safety and transportation arrangements.
Gig workers and platform workers, for the first time, come under formal protection with access to social security schemes, insurance, and welfare funds.
Under the new Social Security Code, EPF and ESIC rules get more structured. PF contributions automatically increase due to higher basic pay, ensuring stronger retirement savings. ESIC coverage expands to more industries and smaller establishments, bringing millions of workers under medical protection.
The Labour Code also focuses heavily on safety and health standards, mandating better working conditions, clean facilities, and emergency support across factories, construction sites, and service industries.
For employers, the new system reduces complexity, paperwork, inspections, and compliance burdens — leading to smoother operations and a more transparent business environment.
The government calls this a “major leap toward modern labour governance”, designed to balance economic growth with worker welfare.
Taiyari Times will continue bringing you the most important updates that matter for your exam prep and real-life awareness. Stay tuned.
