RUINS, SECRECTS AND MEMORY

A poetic filmic meditation on "ruins, memory, and transformation", shot in the pine-covered hills near Kalithea Springs, Rhodes ( Autumn 2025 ).

The "Casa del Vignaiolo" (The Vinedresser’s House), designed in the late 1920s by Armando Bernabiti as part of Pietro Lombardi’s Kallithea Thermal Spa complex, once housed the laboratories of the “grape therapy” — a curious blend of medicine, ritual, and modernist utopia during the "Italian occupation of the Dodecanese (1912–1943)". Later, in 1954, it served as a temporary refuge of Georgios Grivas “Digenis”, the Cypriot resistance leader of the "EOKA movement", who hid here before beginning the anti-colonial struggle in Cyprus.

Today, the building stands in ruin — a silent witness to overlapping empires, ideologies, and dreams. Between fascist modernity, colonial ambition, and Mediterranean myth, the Casa del Vignaiolo becomes an "acoustic chamber of history", where wind, light, and silence reveal forgotten continuities.

This film follows MARCO, a solitary figure tracing the invisible in the ruin — a seeker of echoes, of gestures left behind by time. His movements evoke the rhythm of memory itself: wandering, pausing, listening. The ruin becomes both a site and a psyche, where landscape, architecture, and identity converge into a poetic archaeology of becoming.
