Today, Christian and Anthony sit down at London Jewelers to discuss the brand new Omega Speedmaster Caliber 3861!

The Speedy Pro is one of the most iconic designs in watches, period. It's also remained more or less unchanged for something like 50 years, by this point, with some minor tweaks and adjustments along the way. This new reference, however, shakes things up a bit more than that. We have a brand new bracelet with an updated clasp, for example, which looks beautiful and is incredibly supple on the wrist. We have the return of a stepped dial and the dot over the 90 marker on the bezel, as well. And, of course, we have the new movement, the caliber 3861.

Initially, Omega released this watch in all gold for the 50th Anniversary, without letting on that it would be coming down the pike in steel as the new mainline Professional model. Other brands have done this, whether that's Rolex with the Pepsi or someone else, but it's a very interesting way to road test a design in a precious metal before releasing a full production run of it in a more attainable metal.

All in all, Omega's commitment to slowly updating and upgrading their design language over time as opposed to either drastically changing, or simply reissuing what already exists, speaks to a brand philosophy that is increasingly rare, and one that prides itself on heritage and respect for that heritage.
