The 3rd International Summer Course 2025: Sustainable Tourism Planning & Design

The 3rd International Summer Course “Sustainable Tourism Planning and Design: North Sumatra Experience” 2025 offers an opportunity for participants to explore the principles of sustainable tourism destination planning and design. The program is hosted by Universitas Sumatera Utara in collaboration with the Department of Architecture, the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Tourism, the Graduate and Doctoral Architecture Program, the Professional Architect Education Program, and the Monitoring Centre for Sustainable Tourism Observatory

Beyond academic discussions, the program encourages participants to develop a deeper understanding of environmental protection and cultural values in shaping tourism activities. By focusing on the North Sumatra context, the course highlights the integration of sustainability with local wisdom and community heritage, aiming to inspire future approaches to responsible tourism development

The 3rd International Summer Course 2025 was open to undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students, as well as lecturers and researchers interested in sustainable tourism and design. The program was held in two parts: online sessions from 11–15 August 2025 and offline field excursions in North Sumatra from 21–23 August 2025.It included lectures, group discussions, and field visits so that participants could learn both the theory and the practice directly.
