Notes from ‪@CarrotTopp‬ : Fishbone was scheduled to play on this episode of the Ska Parade but they had to cancel the day of the show due to Angelo Moore being under the weather. We got a call that morning to ask if the Chicken Heads could fill in as the live band. This would our first time playing on the popular and influential Ska Parade radio show and we jumped at the chance to do it. I called up all of the band members and most of us made it down to the KUCI studio as quickly as we could. We didn't have a drummer available on such short notice so I decided to play drums myself while I sang. Unfortunately, in my haste to get out the door, I forgot to bring a pair of drumsticks. When we got to the studio at UC Irvine, I went around looking for anyone who might have drumsticks I could borrow but had no such luck. I realized that my best option was to grab some twigs on the ground next to a nearby tree and use them as makeshift drumsticks. Soon into the live set, I broke my crash cymbal and the twigs whittled down to little pieces as the show progressed. We ended our set by playing an improptu jam while backing up Ska Parade co-host, Albino Brown for a rendition of his poem, "Dog Without a Leash." DJ Tazy Phylippz and the Ska Parade interns also took turns stepping up to the mic for the finale. The photos you see here are from our return performance on the Ska Parade in 1998 since we don't have any pictures from this 1997 performance.
