1950s British Pedal Car Restoration - Perfect Restoration
Hello everyone, In this episode of Restore It, I'm restoring this Tri-ang T45 Motorway Patrol Pedal Car made in the 1950s in Britain.

I started by dismantling the car. The body was covered in rust, and the paint was fighting a losing battle. Once everything was apart, I shot blasted all of the rust and paint off using aluminum oxide grit. With everything back to bare metal, I could now see the damage. With the use of bodywork hammers and dollies, I fixed the dents and imperfections in all of the parts, mainly the bumpers. The body had stress cracks near the seat, so I cut and welded them to make the surface smooth and strong once again. To prepare the painted parts for color, I gave them a coat of zinc-rich primer. To get a chrome effect on the front and rear bumpers, I used a high-chrome powder coating powder. For the wheels and the pedal box, I used epoxy primer, which I sanded to prepare for the top coats. The pedals were painted in RAL 9016 Traffic White base coat, and the wheels were painted in RAL 5005 Signal Blue. The tires were in bad shape, so I cleaned them, removed any loose rubber, filled them with rubber filler, sanded them back down, and treated them with rubber conditioner. The body and some of the chassis were powder coated with RAL 9016 Traffic White gloss powder. The steering wheel and horn button were cleaned, shot blasted, and coated in Cerakote C series. C-140 Bright White and C-143 Spotlight Red. The plastic axle clips were dirty and rusty. They were cleaned and then treated with Retro Bright to try and make them less yellow. The axle and pedal nuts were polished and zinc plated. New secondhand hubcaps were polished to a mirror finish. The bracket and bell were missing, so I made a new bracket and painted it white. Finally the missing parts were sourced, along with new stickers and decals. The car was then fully rebuilt and ready to go for another 70 years.
