This train made history as the LONGEST train on the NS Christiansburg District (New River Districts) in Virginia dur to PSR! Norfolk Southern 189 at Elliston, VA is seen here with Pushers pulling the rear of the train east after stalling on the mountain grade west of Elliston, VA with the addition of two manned pushers (NS 9367 and NS 9953). Originally NS did NOT have pushers on this train and this is why the train stalled. Pushers were sent to the end of the train but could not get traction since the train was still on the grade--therefore they pulled the train east down the grade and then proceeded west again with pushers on the rear. The head end power is NS 7703, NS 1033, NS 7581, and NS 9358 (not seen in this video). This video shows most of the train being pulled east part of the way off the mountain grade to get traction to head west. THIS TRAIN WAS 5 MILES LONG!!! Only about half of the consist and the rear pushers are seen in this video. Total time it took for this train to get up the mountain was 3 1/2 hours! Note that it was daylight when I started filming and getting dark by the end of the video. Also note that NS 195 passes the 189 on Main 2 (behind this train) during the filming. Video shot in 4k. Thank you for watching and enjoy!
