The SIRIGU TRADITIONAL AREA One of the 18 Paramountcies In Ghana's Upper East Region and it's in the Kassena-Nankana West District. Sirigu is well known for its unique traditional architecture, beautiful pottery and traditional wall paintings, usually done by the artistic hands of the women.
History has it that, the people of Sirigu (actually, their Ancestors) originally migrated from Zekko in Burkina Faso to their present home, Sirigu. The town is mainly composed of five (5) major communities which are a representation of the five (5) sons of their ancestor, Azuko after whom the maiden AZUKO festival has been named.
The communities are Nynagolingo, Gunwoko, Basengo, Wugingo and Bugsongo. Sirigu is about 800Kms from Ghana's capital, Accra and one will have to cover a distance of up to 30Kms by road to arrive in Sirigu from the Upper East Regional capital, Bolgatanga - roughly a journey of 50 minutes or less.
A first-time visitor to Sirigu needs to worry not as the people are very welcoming and helpful. The SWOPA Eco Lodge & Restaurant
