وا فریادا ز عشق، وا فریادا
کارم به یکی طرفه‌نگار افتادا
گر دادِ منِ شکسته دادا، دادا
ور نه من و عشق هر چه بادا بادا
دل کیست که گویم از برای غم توست‌؟
یا آن که حریمِ تن، سرایِ غم توست
لطفی‌ست که می‌کند غمت با دل من
ورنه دلِ تنگ من چه جای غم توست‌‌؟

This passionate poem reflects the inner turmoil of a lover utterly consumed by love, with no escape but surrender. The poet begins with a cry of anguish—"Alas, love!"—as if love has struck him like a powerful force. His heart has fallen for a "wondrous beauty," a captivating beloved. He sees himself as broken and pleading for justice; if there is fairness in love, let his cry be heard. If not, then so be it—he leaves himself to the mercy of love, come what may. The poet then questions the very nature of his heart: is it truly his own, or merely a vessel for the sorrow born of love? In the final lines, with mystical depth, he suggests that the grief of the beloved resides in his heart not because his heart is vast enough, but because the grief itself—out of kindness—has chosen to dwell there. His heart is far too narrow to hold such sorrow, yet it has done so by the grace of love itself.
