Most home labs are too perfect. You plug in a firewall, it gets an IP, and everything works. But real enterprise networks? They break. Links fail, routing gets messy, and that's where you actually learn.
In this video, I walk through building a realistic dual-WAN enterprise environment using a Cisco router and free FortiGate VMs. The challenge? The free VM only gives you 3 interfaces, so I had to get creative.
What you'll see:
Using VRF-Lite on the Cisco router to simulate separate MPLS and Internet paths
The "secondary IP hack" to work around interface limitations
BGP path manipulation with AS-path prepending
Policy-based routing to fix triangle routing issues
SD-WAN failover
IPsec tunnels for backup connectivity
Why did I build this? I'm using an AI agent to troubleshoot network issues, and I needed a lab that actually has problems worth solving.
