The Women of the Dunes Review + The Lyon Highlander Cocktail | Scottish Secrets & Family Legends

Family legends, tartan pride, and a cocktail with roots — this episode is personal.
I sat down with my niece — Princess Mandi of Clan Ogilvie — fresh from competing in the Highland Games at Lyon College Scots Fest 🏴🏋️‍♀️ We started talking about how family stories get passed down… and how sometimes, the truth is a little different than the legend we grew up believing.

Inspired by The Women of the Dunes, we dive into a story filled with old bones uncovered in the sand, three women separated by time, a couple of murders nobody wants to talk about, and a legend that refuses to stay buried. Sometimes, you need to dig — literally and emotionally — to find where your story truly begins.

And because every Boozy Bee episode deserves a toast, we created The Lyon Highlander — a Scottish cocktail with Coach Linville’s Arkansas clover honey, a cinnamon-sugar rim, and just a touch of Irish whiskey… since someone forgot the Scotch 😉☘️

🍸 COCKTAIL OF THE EPISODE: The Lyon Highlander makes 2 cocktails or 1 large one
• 4 oz. Jameson Irish Whiskey (because someone ahem forgot the Scotch 😉)
• 3/4 oz Fresh Lemon Juice
• 3/4 oz Coach Linville’s local honey syrup (Arkansas meets the Highlands!)
I made this by thinning the honey out with water (3 tbsp of honey to 1 tbsp of hot water)
• Cinnamon & sugar rim, served in Waterford tumblers gifted by family

Because sometimes a cocktail tells a story, too.
