Suspension Setup Tuning Tips | 2012 Ski-Doo Renegade 137 | Adjust Clicker Shocks Fix Heavy Steering

We noticed that our 2012 Skidoo Renegade 800X had Heavy Steering... hard to turn the ski-doo handlebars to corner, inside ski would tend to bite and sled would tip in corners. I couldn’t find any information specific to adjusting ski doo snowmobile KYB clicker shocks with the small red adjusting knobs so here it is, your snowmovlog for suspension tuning - Setting Up Your Ski-Doo Rev XP (X package model before RMotion) Rear Suspension.

There are a few key components to Ski-Doo Snowmobile Suspension, Here is a glossary of terms you may hear on the trail:

• What is Darting?

Darting on the trails typically happens when your snowmobile ski grabs the snow a rut and wants to steer the sled in a different direction than the driver might intend. ... adjusting ski pressure can help improve this issue. You can also run shaper Bar carbides or other traction products for skis to reduce darting if these suspension tips do not help.

• What is Pushing in turns or Push turns mean?

Pushing in turns usually means your snowmobile doesnt turn as sharp as it should. Skis slide a bit on the snow due to a lightly weighted front end or not enough weight transfer to the skis in corners. Adjusting the rear suspension coupler Blocks and limiter strap tighter can transfer more weight to the skis and reduce pushing in turns.

• What is Heavy Steering, Why is my sled hard to turn:

Heavy steering refers to when your snowmobile takes extra muscle strength to turn the handlebars and skis at low speeds as well, heavy steering may cause too much bite in turns and inside ski lift in corners. Heavy steering may cause the rider to feel like they are fighting the sled through turns and can result in sore arms and shoulders after a long day of riding. Adjusting the rear suspension coupler Blocks to a lower setting and loosening the limiter strap can transfer less weight to the skis and lighten the front end ski pressure to reduce ski lift, heavy steering and darting.

Front Shocks:

A Shock Absorber Cylinder controls dampening. The Spring Surrounds the Shock Absorber sets ride height and firmness or the ride. And Adjustable collar adjusts the spring tension and can sometimes have a notched setting that requires a tool to adjust, or is a threaded collar you can spin to adjust by hand. The Skidoo X Package KYB Clicker shocks also have a small red knob with approximately 20 click positions to adjust rebound response control - how fast the shock rebounds in stutter bumps or big hits as well as plush trail conditions.

Front torque Arm:

Connects the front of the skid frame to the chassis. The centre shock in the strap are also connected to this perm

Limiter Strap:

Can be used to adjust weight transfer and distribution by limiting the travel of the front arm.

Centre Shock:

Controls movement and dampening of the front arm.

Rear arm

Connects the rear of the skid frame to the skid chassis. The rear shock and torsion springs are also attached to this arm.

Controls movement and dampening of the rear arm

Coupling system/Coupler Blocks

Controls the progressive rates of the front and rear arms in the skid frame and transfers the load to the front of the snowmachine. Transfer occurs when the coupler block contacts the rear stop. Adjustments to the coupling system can affect weight transfer, steering effort, and overall ride quality.

Torsion springs

Torsion springs support the load carried by the rear suspension. Torsion spring settings using the adjusting coupling blocks affect weight distribution of the snowmobile and how the load weight is transferred to the front of the skidoo.
