I wrote this song after reading a book about lost practices in the countryside in Iceland. Like many others, this song has been in storage for decades until now, when I thought of trying to do something with it.
Ég samdi þetta lag eftir að hafa lesið bók um horfna starfshætti í sveitum á Íslandi. Þetta lag, eins og mörg fleiri, hefur verið í geymslu áratugum saman þangað til núna, að mér datt í hug að reyna gera eitthvað við það.
This time my amp was broken, so I had to use the Pro Tools onboard sounds for my blue Fender Stratocaster. After Easter, I'll upload the backing track if someone wants to play or sing the song.


SUMAR OG SÓL

Heima ríkir sumar og sól,
sveitin lifnar, fer á ról.
Þá ferðast fólk um á bílunum,
og flengist um á drógunum.

Bóndi bregður ljá í strá,
bóndakonan breiðir á.
Alltaf eflist flekkurinn,
og ekki meira um frí um sinn.

Erfiðið vex, þegar að sólin skín.
Sætt væri að fá smá hvíld, þá þreytan dvín.
Það tautar ei að tala um það,
ég tapa af stund til að lesa eitt blað.

Tæpast tóm til að fara í bað.

SUMMER AND SUN

At home, summer and sun reign
the countryside comes to life and goes on a roll.
Then people travel around in cars
and fool around on the workhorses

A farmer starts to mow the grass,
and the farmer's wife spreads the hay.
the stain always gets bigger,
and no more about holidays for now.

Labor gets hard when the sun shines.
It would be nice to get some rest, then the tiredness subsides.
It is no use to talk about it,
I lose the time to read a newspaper.

It's hardly time to take a bath.
